Comet Hale Bopp
Comet Hale Bopp was very impressive from Tirol. for months one could not miss it evey clear night even when driving on the Autobahn in the Inn valley.  When driving up the mountains two bright tail were clearly visible, sometimes spanning 20 degres or more.  Now and then I tried to shoot some pictures.  I used simple equipment, just a 35mm camera and standard telephoto lenses.  The pictures were taken in the mountains close to Innsbruck, at elevations between 1600m and 2200m.  The sky is quite dark there and no filters, or other sophisticated techniques was used.  The exposures were usually too short to be limited by sky background. They were scanned and the contrast was enhanced litte bit.  Here there are a few examples:

wide angle view    5 min exposure with f2.8 28mm lens       9. April 1996

                                         5 min exposure with f2.0 50mm lens       9. April 1996

                                         5 min exposure with f2.8 135 mm lens       9. April 1996
